Newest Photos at Sapsucker Woods Pond

I have been following the Great Blue Herons again this year up at Cornells live bird webcams, and I wanted to share with you an update of what is going on in the nest and on the pond.

This is the male looking for the perfect stick to take back to the nest.

Here is one of them standing on a dock along the waters edge. I thought it was a fun photo. He proceeded to walk off the end and into the water looking for something to eat.

Here is Mom with her first egg. It is so amazing that a bird the size of a great blue heron would start from an egg that little.     (sorry about the top of the picture, I am new at Paint and forget to get rid of the previous picture before I save the new one)

And as of yesterday the 17th there are two eggs in the nest. Last year before it was all done there were 5 eggs, so I will keep you posted.

Just leaving the nest to look for something to eat or a new twig. Look at the wingspan on this bird! Amazing.

Well I hope you enjoy these photos and I hope you will visit the website and watch for yourself because it is so wonderful to see nature up close like this. I love to hear the birds singing and the peepers chirping in the background so much that I turn it on even before it gets bright outside. The cameras are going 24/7 and they have a special nighttime camera so even after dark you can see the nest.

Have a great day.

I am sharing this over at Thursdays Favorite Things Blog Hop  at Katherines Corner.

  3. Thank you for these beautiful photos. Great Blue Herons are quite nervous around people so, though we have them on our creek, we can never get this close. They are the most beautiful, graceful birds.

  4. You are welcome Granny, but if it wasn't for the Cornell Lab we wouldn't have such amazing photos.

I am so glad that you are enjoying them. I also enjoy all the sounds of the pond. I hope you can enjoy them as well.

Have a great day. And thank you for visiting my blog.
